Mariette was born and raised in Belgium. She immigrated with her family to the United States in 1953 when she was 17 years old. She was taught the art of Knitting and Crochet by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Ostend Belgium. She studied art at The Academy d'Ostende and has written many books and patterns for Machine Knitting, Hand Knitting and Crochet.

She developed the Uni-Knitting Technique for Machine Knitting and taught Knitting and Custom Fit classes at Seminars and Workshops across the United States and Canada.
